Texting while driving is extremely dangerous, and some studies show it can be five times as dangerous as talking on a cell phone. In a recent study by the Department of Transportation, drivers that are texting are 23 times more likely to get in an accident than those not distracted while driving. And, if a young and inexperienced driver is texting, this will only compound the problem. The Keychain Contract and Tire Wristband will act as constant reminders to discourage young drivers and all drivers from texting while driving. Many states now have laws against texting while driving. As of April, 2012, 37 states ban text messaging for all drivers. Unfortunately these bans are not reducing the number of accidents. According to a study by the Highway Loss Data Institute in September, 2010, they found no reduction in car collisions after texting-while-driving laws took effect. This shows the importance of the many reminders provided by the Keychain Contract Safety Kit, as well as the signed commitment by the driver.
